Ziegler Holzindustrie GmbH & Co. KG is the original company of the ZIEGLER GROUP and is located in Plößberg. What began in 1948 as a farming operation developed over time into an imposing sawmill. With 6 sawing and planing lines and almost 2.2 million solid cubic meters of wood processed per year, it is the largest single site in Europe. The company is the engine of our success and in wood processing we set the standards here. More than 700 employees transform spruce and pine logs into high-quality lumber products such as slats, boards and beams. The logs arriving in Plößberg come mainly from northern Bavaria and the Czech Republic. If you were to string them all together every year, the result would be a distance of more than 43,000 kilometers – significantly longer than the circumference of the earth. However, we prefer to get to know countries in a different way: through exports. Our quota is high and was around 65 percent in 2020. We deliver to all inhabited continents, and some of the wood even makes the long journey to Australia.

We give 100 percent. Also when it comes to recycling.
The best waste is that which is not generated in the first place. Like ours – our tree trunks are 100 percent recycled. Economic and ecological goals go hand in hand, which is good for people and nature. And this is what results:
Sawn timber is the ideal material for almost any construction project. It is also the basis of our product portfolio. In addition to its stability, it is durable and environmentally friendly. With sawn timber in house construction, the future is not built on sand, but its use actively contributes to climate protection.
Wood processing generates many by-products that can be used elsewhere. It doesn’t matter whether they are used as wood fiberboard or as renewable fuel. In our own combined heat and power plant, we thus generate energy from wood residues. And use it to operate our plants in Plößberg.
Bark is the “skin of the tree”. Like sawdust and wood chips, we prefer to use it as a renewable fuel for our in-house combined heat and power plant. But it is also used in other ways. In gardens, it is used as bark mulch to protect the soil from drying out and also serves as erosion protection. In addition, bark is processed into bark humus. As a nutrient supplier, it sustainably improves soil life.
